Think of cleansing as wringing out a sponge that has soaked up marinara sauce. Just as you wouldn’t want the lingering tomato aroma to affect your clean dishes, you don’t want residual or foreign energies affecting your personal space. Cleansing helps clear away unwanted influences so that your intentions and practices can proceed unimpeded.

A common misconception about cleansing is that it must be a grand, complex ritual. In reality, it doesn’t have to be elaborate. Cleansing can be a quick, simple action, such as a mindful breath or a brief ritual. The aim is to remove any negativity or stagnant energy without adding stress to your life.

The idea isn’t to eliminate all energy but to reset it. There’s no need to worry about “doing it wrong” or “contaminating” your space. Cleansing is about bringing energy back to a neutral state, not eradicating it completely. After all, the universe has far more supportive forces than harmful ones.

Here are some low-effort methods that can be easily incorporated into your routine:

  1. Moon Water: Adding moon water to your cleaning routine can infuse your space with intention. Simply pour a bit of moon water into your cleaning supplies like laundry detergents or multi-surface cleaners.
  2. Intention Setting: As you clean, set a clear intention that you’re also clearing out any energy that’s not serving you. Just as dust settles on surfaces, so does energy. By focusing on this intention while cleaning, you can simultaneously clear physical and energetic debris.

The key is finding sounds that uplift you and align with the energy you want to bring into your space. Creating a playlist of songs that make you feel good can be a fun and personal way to cleanse your space.
  4. Sigils: Integrate sigils into your cleaning routine. Draw or place sigils on items like your vacuum, broom, or even your cleaning spray bottles. Sigils can help focus your intention and enhance the cleansing process.
  5. Simmer Pots: Simmer pots involve boiling water with herbs, fruits, or spices to release their aromas. You can browse the ingredients for their magical properties making sure they align with your intention, and then put them all together to create your pot. Just remember to set a timer to avoid overcooking (I’ve made this mistake one too many times), and consider using a crock pot or a tealight holder as an alternative to the stove for safety. You can then carry the pot once it’s simmered around your space if it’s portable size and allow the steam to touch each room to cleanse your space. I also like to use the water afterwards to put in my diffusers or to wash my floors.
  6. Florida Water: This spiritual cologne can be used in similar ways to moon water. It’s often applied to the skin or added to cleaning supplies. If you like herbal scents, Florida Water can refresh both your physical and energetic space.
  7. Crystals: Use crystals such as selenite to cleanse your space. Selenite is known for its high vibrational energy and can be used to sweep over your body or space, clearing away stagnant energy. A simple motion over your palms, soles of your feet, and crown of your head can be very effective. Place selenite sticks in your windows and above doors to create an energetic boundary that keeps the space cleansed.
  8. Reiki: Reiki can be used for space cleansing by channeling energy to clear and harmonize the energy of a room or environment. However, it’s crucial to be mindful of cultural appropriation and use alternatives like blue sage, mugwort, rosemary, cinnamon, or incense.
